Bora Bora is a small island and is part of the Society Islands of the French Polynesia. Bora Bora lies over two hundred kilometers away from the capital city of Pape’ete. The island has a lovely barrier reef and there is also an extinct volcano present here that shows that it may have formed due to volcanic activity in the past. There are many things to do in Bora Bora and therefore it is a very famous destination for tourists visiting the Pacific region.
The economy of Bora Bora depends on the sea as well as on tourism. It has a beautiful lagoon and the census records show a population of around 9000 people. Historical records show that the island was inhabited around the 4th Century. European explorers sighted the island in the early 18th Century, but it was the French who were finally able to control the area and make it a colony.
